O Little Town of Bethlehem

After visiting the Palestinian city of Bethlehem in 1865, Episcopalian priest Phillips Brooks was inspired to write the text to this beautiful Christmas carol. There are two famous versions of music written for this text, here we use the one mostly sung outside of the USA, a hymn tune called Forest Green (the American tune is called St. Louis for anyone who wishes to seek it out). Forest Green is based on a folk ballad called The Ploughboy’s Dream, which was adapted by English composer Ralph Vaughan Williams in 1906.
